The Curse of the Witch Scavenger Hunt

Thursday, July 16th, 2015

Screen Shot 2015-07-16 at 1.56.55 PMAs the sun went down over the idyllic lake last night, Camp Starlight was visited by a mysterious and wicked sorcerer who cast an evil spell over the camp. The malevolent figure brought with him a tyranny of supernatural creatures including Genies, Witches, and Wizards who roamed the camp. As the spell was cast on the camp, it was up to the campers to come out in force to oust the evil sorcerer.

Screen Shot 2015-07-16 at 1.57.40 PMAs darkness descended, the campers dressed up as supernatural creatures to fool the sorcerer into thinking he had taken control of Starlight. Quickly, the Starlighters worked together to collect numerous ingredients to dethrone the master. However, the campers did not have an easy job to undertake, as they had to visit each of the sorcerer’s troublesome companions and complete a difficult task.

Despite the problematic situation, our talented campers succeeded in collecting all of the treasured possessions and returning happiness, laughter, and sunshine to Camp Starlight, in what happened to be a thrilling evening!

Ethan repeated the run by winning his ever proper singles game at 8-0. As we entered doubles Lance L and Noah M just kept up the winning streak by winning their own match 8-1. Jacob M and Justin M finished the match in style by winning 8-0. All of the boys represented Starlight in the right way and I look forward to more matches with this great team.

Today we started off strong throughout the first quarter, although the rest of the game was a different story. Our 4th grade girls battled hard but fell short to Camp Levi. Even though we lost, there was a few girls who shined bright. Brooke G and Sydney R lead us off with two baskets and free throws. Throughout the game, Lilly T kept her ground while rebounding gave her a chance to lay it back for two points. Joie E took us coast to coast gaining another two points for Starlight. All of the girls played very well and I’m very proud of each girl on my team for staying fair and true to the sportsmanship and spirit of Starlight.

Backstage: Willy Wonka

Sunday, July 12th, 2015

Only at Camp Starlight can rolls of paper be made into something spectacular. Everyone marvels at the finished product of the plays, but often times, people forget those involved backstage. This week, the crew is back and hard at work on Willy Wonka. Upper Senior Dani S. explains that this show creates a whole new tone backstage. “My favorite part about this show is painting the lollypops. We’re using so many colors and it is especially bright and colorful in the Playhouse!” Each period the Inters come in and sing their hearts out for one determined Theater Director, Jeff Moss, who pinches and perfects each number until each is show ready. Blake, the set designer, is busy behind the curtain, helping campers build a perfect set. Madison K., an Upper Senior girl working on the set, explained that, “it’s amazing that we start from scratch each week. We work together to build something beautiful.” And she’s right. There is nothing like it in the world. On Sunday night Jeff Moss will announce “Ladies and Gentlemen” and the show will begin. With eyes peeled, we will clap with enthusiasm and watch all of the hard work that those behind the scenes have put into the show.
