Friday, July 7th, 2017Friday Night Show at Camp Starlight
Friday, July 7th, 2017Once the sun lowers from the peak point in the sky on a Friday afternoon the entire campus begins to buzz about the Friday Night Show at Camp Starlight. Wondering what skit will be performed and who will make guest appearances, camp eagerly awaits the spotlight that will illuminate the stage. The Friday Night Show is a newer tradition at Camp Starlight where staff members Jason and Hayley host a sketch comedy show for all of camp to enjoy and laugh.
All of camp is in an electric mood when the hosts make an appearance on stage; everyone in the audience straightens up in their seats anticipating to laugh so hard their stomachs will ache with joy. For almost the entire show the audience is laughing, giggling and chuckling at all the silly shenanigans that take place and applaud when exciting surprises appear when least expected. During the Friday Night Show, campers are encouraged to be goofy because this is a special time that embraces jokes and witty gags played on audience members. Feeling like a fool while watching the show is part of the fun and is what makes the experience so entertaining.
Dedicating Friday nights to laughter creates a bubbling anticipation for these Friday Night Shows among campers and encourages them to utilize skills in sketch comedy, theatre and stage productions. More often than not, when campers are exposed to these special forms of entertainment a new passion will blossom before them. Nurturing these passions is what allows for these Friday Night Shows to get better each year with the help of campers. When these campers share laughter together, they transform these Friday night moments into memories.

Junior Boys Win Hockey in Overtime
Thursday, July 6th, 2017Starlight’s Junior boys hockey team fell down early to a 4-1 deficit, but Ryhs B. and crew powered in the 3rd period to tie the game at 4-4. Jesse J. and Justin J. helped in the comeback each scoring a goal of their own. As regulation time was winding down, Starlight showed their true colors and clamped down on defense. A minute into overtime, Ryhs B. was in the right place at the right time because just as Mason G. shot into the net, Rhys B. rebounded right to him and slammed it home to get the overtime winning goal with the use of his hat trick technique.
Winter Sports at Camp Starlight
Thursday, July 6th, 2017Camp Starlight embodies all the classic ideas and activities associated with a summer camp–water sports, arts and crafts, campfires and basically every sport meant to be played under the sun. Creating the ultimate summer experience, Camp Starlight can’t help but go the extra mile in camper happiness and fun which is why they have pushed the limits of what activities are meant to be played under the heat of the sun with their own ice rink, “The StarRink.” Traditionally, hockey and figure skating, sports that caters to the atmosphere of snow and ice, are offered as a full time activity due to the synthetic ice rink, allowing campers to enjoy this winter time sport outside in the sunshine. Camp Starlight brings the magic by transforming winter into summer.
It’s an awesome opportunity to teach a skill that kids really wouldn’t practice in the summer. Available as a choice for option periods, campers are able to access the rink as many times as they wish. Campers at Camp Starlight are able to take advantage of improving athletic skills that are primarily only worked on in the winter season, allowing campers to obtain a well rounded set of technical skills.
Camp Starlight’s initiative to provide the campers with the opportunity to participate in winter sports during the summer season highlights their dedication to support all camper’s athletic skills and capabilities, encouraging campers to always go outside the box, or in this case, inside the rink.
Junior Girls Basketball
Wednesday, July 5th, 2017Starlight’s Junior girls basketball had a dominating victory against Westmont with a score of 18-4. Mikayla T. started us off strong by winning the tip off. After the jump ball, Starlight had a slow start until Dylan S. quickly broke the streak by scoring 12 points. Mikayla T. contributed with 2 points on offense and then 4 steals and 6 rebounds on defense. Miley Y. and Lilly A. scored 2 points each adding to the total. Starlight would not have been able to limit off Westmont’s defense without Claudia C., Avery G. and Lilly P. Leading the team assists were Ella G. and Hannah G. The entire team really pushed through for the first game of the summer to get an easy win.
Lower Inters Softball
Wednesday, July 5th, 2017Camp Starlight’s Lower Inter girl’s softball team beat Wayne 8-2. Harper L., Taylor M. and Lilly T. combined to strike out 11 batters. Lilly T. drove in 3 runs and Avery K., JoJo G., Lilly F., Ava F. and Brooke G. all scored and drove in runs. Ari Y. performed the catching outs for the winning squad.
Our Camp Videographer!
Wednesday, July 5th, 2017Running around campus and never staying in the same spot for too long, videographer Rachel believes she has the best job on campus. Filming by day and editing by night, Rachel is the eye of Camp Starlight, meeting and filming every single camper, counselor and staff member.
“I get to see everything. My work is the representation of Camp Starlight for everyone that is not here at the moment which is so special because I play a part in how the outside world perceives Camp Starlight,” said Rachel. For perspective and current families, campers and alumni, Rachel is able to tell the story of Camp Starlight for all to see.
“On a typical day I wake with my bunk, eat breakfast and then I film for the whole day. I film in the evenings as well and when I have time off I edit footage to create highlights,” said Rachel. As videographer, Rachel captures every sporting event, theatre production, evening activity, dance competition and everything else that goes on at Camp Starlight. Because Camp Starlight is always on the move for the next fun activity, so is Rachel.
“The kids have so much energy and excitement and its so much fun to help draw that out of them because that is where the true essence of Camp Starlight lies,” said Rachel.
Rachel’s ultimate project is creating the Camp Starlight’s yearbook. Summarizing the complete summer in one video is a challenge but Rachel is up for the dare.
“If I could describe my job in one word, it would be ‘magical,’” said Rachel.

Wonders of the Waterfront at Camp Starlight
Tuesday, July 4th, 2017The first image that will pop into your head when you think of Camp Starlight is the iconic twin lakes that rest on the shores of Camp Starlight. Offering stunning sunsets in the evenings and the most scenic view in the day to accompany a summer of absolute fun, the waterfront is a favorite among campers and staff. When considering campers return summer after summer after summer for the fun on the lake, there is definitely a special element of camp that is unique to the lake. The calmness of the water can help a camper slow down in the middle of a busy day of summer camp. Of course, the seemingly endless amount of water toys, boats and waterskiing provides campers amp up the excitement in their day. Whether a camper wants to slow down the pace of their day or really embrace their energy, the waterfront welcomes all new and old campers to its shores every summer.
